On June 29, 2023, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision striking down the consideration of race in college admissions.

“Allowing colleges and universities to consider race as one of many factors in the admissions process has opened doors for those who have historically been excluded while also enriching the college experience for all Americans. Today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority slams those doors shut again. Just as ignoring racial barriers in society does not make them go away, neither will ignoring race in our education system make it more equal.

“I am deeply disappointed by today’s decision and will continue to work with our communities and higher education leaders to find ways to increase educational outcomes for all students.”
