Community members in the cities of Bellevue, Issaquah, Mercer Island, and Redmond are invited to join the 2023 Eastside Climate Challenge, a joint campaign providing residents and organizations with new and exciting opportunities to learn about climate change solutions so they can help achieve regional climate action goals.
Approximately 40% of community emissions come from basic household activities like heating, energy use and waste production. Individual household actions are essential to achieve the Eastside cities’ sustainability goals and halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
Nearly 500 homes are already participating in the challenge, and have jointly reduced almost 140 tons of carbon emissions. The 2023 challenge aims to double engagement, and will highlight monthly topics and provide community members and organizations with exciting opportunities to learn about climate change solutions.
The Eastside Climate Challenge will extend through the end of the year, with special opportunities and programming offered through June to:
- Discover simple, affordable actions to save money, energy, water and reduce waste.
- Focus on monthly topics like home energy, food and waste, and water to guide community members’ efforts.
- Connect with other Eastside residents committed to a climate-friendly future for our communities.
- Attend community discussions, webinars and events to engage with other participants and experts in the field.
- Earn prizes to support a sustainable lifestyle by participating and completing actions.
Whether community members live in a house or apartment, own or rent, there are affordable actions everyone can take to make a positive impact. With federal, state, and local incentives becoming available this year, now is the time for households to act to save even more.
