At the June 7, 2022 City Council meeting, North Bend  Councilmembers unanimously approved a motion authorizing a contract for  an Economic Development Action Plan with Place + Main Advisors.

City  Council and staff began the process of updating the City’s Economic  Development strategy in September, 2020, noting a need for a holistic  plan to foster sustainable investment, create family wage jobs, and  provide more goods, services, and amenities to better meet residents’  needs.

Since then, the Economic Development Commission has worked  with the Community and Economic Development Department and Council to  provide a framework for professional services to assist in creating the  action plan, including an analysis  of issues and opportunities and a set of economic development goals  that are consistent with the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Brand  Implementation Guidelines.

The Economic Development Action Plan  will incorporate input from key community stakeholders to provide  specific, actionable strategies for staff and provide guidance for  Council on issues relating to the economic health and well-being of the  City.

“Having an Economic Development Action Plan is critical in  developing long-term fiscal stability for the city and an overall  balanced community,” commented Mayor Rob McFarland. “We are a highly  livable community, and staying that way requires continuous work from  all stakeholders, including your city government.”

The action plan  is being funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Place +  Main Advisors are anticipated to begin work with the City this month.  The Economic Development Action Plan is expected to be complete by  December, 2022.
