Rep. Suzan DelBene, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, posted a series of statements on social media criticizing Senate Republicans for recent health care policy decisions and providing updates on federal disaster aid to Washington state.
On December 11, 2025, DelBene claimed that “Senate Republicans voted to allow a massive increase in health care bills starting in January. One clear solution to help address the Republican health care crisis is to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits so millions of families don’t lose their health care next year.”
Later that day, she focused on her home state: “Republicans are letting ACA tax credits expire, forcing massive health care price hikes on WA families. This includes Mitch & his wife from Bothell, whose monthly premiums are set to rise from $520 to nearly $2,200 in January.” The statement highlighted potential consequences for constituents if Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits are not extended.
On December 12, 2025, DelBene provided an update regarding emergency response efforts: “UPDATE: After the entire delegation called on President Trump to approve an expedited Emergency Declaration for the historic flooding the state is facing, FEMA granted WA’s request.”
Suzan DelBene has represented Washington’s 1st District in Congress since succeeding Jay Inslee in 2012. She was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina. DelBene holds degrees from Reed College and the University of Washington.
The ACA tax credits referenced by DelBene were initially expanded under pandemic relief measures and have helped reduce premiums for millions of Americans. If these enhanced subsidies expire as scheduled at the end of 2025 without congressional action, many families could see significant increases in their monthly insurance costs.
