Rep. Suzan DelBene, who represents Washington’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media addressing an impending government shutdown and extending greetings for Yom Kippur.
On September 30, 2025, DelBene wrote: “We’re on the brink of a Republican Shutdown, but I’m still here, fighting for you, your health care, & to keep the government open.”
The following day, she commented further on the situation: “No negotiations. No solutions. Just a Republican shutdown all so they can drive up your costs & take away your health care.” This post was made on October 1, 2025.
On October 2, 2025, DelBene shared a message marking a religious observance: “Wishing all those observing in Washington & across the world a meaningful Yom Kippur. G’mar Chatima Tovah!”
Suzan DelBene has represented Washington’s 1st District since replacing Jay Inslee in 2012 and has served continuously since then. She was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina at age 61. Her academic background includes degrees from Reed College and the University of Washington.
