Rep. Suzan DelBene, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, has recently taken to social media to address concerns about health care and housing costs in her state. Her series of tweets highlight her efforts and perspectives on these pressing issues.

On June 7, 2025, Rep. DelBene shared that she had spoken with a small business owner from Woodinville who expressed concerns regarding health care costs. She wrote, “I recently spoke with a small business owner from Woodinville who is concerned about health care costs.”

In another tweet posted on the same day, Rep. DelBene criticized the Republican budget bill for its potential impact on health insurance prices in Washington state. She stated that the bill would increase prices for WA Healthplanfinder plans used by many small businesses and residents for health coverage. DelBene emphasized her commitment to reducing health care expenses and safeguarding Medicaid/Apple Health by saying, “The Republican budget bill will raise prices for WA Healthplanfinder plans that many small businesses & Washingtonians use to get health coverage. I’m working to lower health care costs and protect Medicaid/Apple Health.”

Later that day, Rep. DelBene addressed the issue of housing affordability in Washington state through another tweet. She highlighted the financial burden faced by families due to rising housing costs and criticized Republican efforts that could exacerbate this situation by increasing mortgage rates, thereby adding significant interest payments annually for homeowners. Her tweet read: “Housing costs are one of the biggest burdens Washington families face. Republicans are trying to make it even more expensive to own a house by increasing mortgage rates, adding hundreds of dollars a year in interest payments.”

Suzan DelBene was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina, Washington. She graduated from Reed College with a BS degree in 1983 and later earned another degree from the University of Washington in 1990.
