Rep. Suzan DelBene, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st district, has recently taken to social media to express her views on several pressing issues. Her statements highlight her commitment to advocating for equality, addressing gun violence, and promoting religious freedom.
On June 5, 2025, Rep. DelBene shared her gratitude for receiving Q Street’s Equality Ally Award. She stated: “Honored to receive Q Street’s Equality Ally Award! Fighting for LGBTQ+ rights is about ensuring dignity, freedom, & that everyone can live as their authentic selves. With our progress under renewed attacks, I’ll continue to fight until we achieve full equality for all!” This statement underscores her dedication to LGBTQ+ rights and her ongoing efforts toward achieving comprehensive equality.
The following day, on June 6, 2025, she addressed the issue of gun violence with a call to action: “Gun violence has taken too many lives & shattered too many communities. I’m wearing orange to honor the victims & demand action. We can’t wait any longer—Congress must act.” Her use of the #WearOrange hashtag signifies solidarity with the movement demanding legislative measures against gun violence.
Later that same day, Rep. DelBene criticized comments made by another member of Congress regarding religious beliefs: “Targeting someone’s faith has no place in Congress. Rep. Miller’s comments were ignorant, offensive, & un-American. We should be promoting religious freedom, not attacking it.” This statement reflects her stance on protecting religious freedoms and denouncing discriminatory rhetoric.
Suzan DelBene was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and now resides in Medina. She replaced Jay Inslee in Congress in 2012 and holds degrees from Reed College and the University of Washington.
