Rep. Suzan DelBene, who represents Washington’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used her social media platform to address issues ranging from environmental funding cuts to education and tax policy.

On August 14, 2025, DelBene criticized a decision by the Trump administration regarding salmon recovery funding: “The Trump admin is cutting off funding that supports WA salmon recovery. I’m joining WA Democrats urging Interior Secretary Burgum to restore the $1.3M that supports this work. Let’s protect WA’s habitat, communities, & heritage.”

The following day, she highlighted her commitment to education as students prepared for a new academic year: “It’s Back to School Month! Every child deserves a strong start, which is why I’m focused on supporting our schools, teachers, and families as the new school year begins.”

On August 16, DelBene commented on recent federal legislation and its impact on American families: “Trump’s megabill rolls back many of these gains & makes America more expensive for middle-class families, all so he could give the ultra-wealthy another huge tax break.”

Suzan DelBene has served in Congress since 2012 after succeeding Jay Inslee as representative of Washington’s 1st District. She was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina. DelBene graduated from Reed College with a BS in 1983 and later earned another degree from the University of Washington in 1990.
