Rep. Suzan DelBene, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, recently expressed her concerns regarding the economic impact of tariffs and other policies implemented by former President Trump. Her remarks were shared on social media, where she highlighted the consequences of these actions and called for legislative intervention.

On May 15, 2025, DelBene stated that “Trump’s tariffs are driving up prices at some of the biggest stores in the U.S.” She emphasized that Republicans in Congress have the power to alleviate this economic strain by voting on legislation similar to hers aimed at halting these extensive tariffs.

In another post on the same day, she reiterated her stance by again asserting that “Trump’s tariffs are driving up prices at some of the biggest stores in the U.S.” She urged congressional Republicans to act by calling a vote on measures like hers designed to terminate these sweeping tariffs.

Later that day, DelBene criticized Trump’s plans for a personal celebration amidst cuts to essential services. She remarked that “Trump is planning to spend millions on a birthday parade for himself at the same time he’s trying to take away health care & other services from you.” Describing this as “outrageous,” she underscored her disapproval of such expenditures given their potential impact on public welfare.

Suzan DelBene was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina. A graduate of Reed College and the University of Washington, she has been serving her district since succeeding Jay Inslee in 2012.
