Rep. Suzan DelBene, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, recently shared a series of posts on social media highlighting her visits with educators and students at Arlington High School and discussing economic challenges faced by small businesses and farmers in her community.
On May 7, 2026, DelBene marked Teacher Appreciation Week with a visit to Arlington High School, posting: “It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! Great to visit Arlington High School & chat with Mr. Keeley, Mr. Copenhaver, & Mrs. Hayman. Teachers are the backbone of our education system. Thank you for everything you do to support our students!”
Later that evening, she addressed economic concerns impacting local entrepreneurs and agricultural workers: “Tariffs & rising fuel costs are hitting small businesses & farmers the hardest. I spoke with Eric, a business owner & farmer in our community, about the impact.” This comment reflects ongoing national discussions about the effect of tariffs and energy prices on rural economies.
Continuing her engagement at Arlington High School on May 8, DelBene noted: “Wonderful to visit Arlington High School & speak with so many students! I stopped by AP government & history classes to answer questions on what’s happening in Congress & participated in a conversation with student journalists.”
Suzan DelBene has represented Washington’s 1st District since succeeding Jay Inslee in 2012. She was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina. DelBene graduated from Reed College in 1983 and later earned a degree from the University of Washington in 1990.
