Seattle University baseball lost to Saint Mary’s College, 1-11, in eight innings on May 1. The game was close for more than six innings before a big scoring surge from the home team changed the outcome.

The Redhawks started strong with a leadoff home run by Payton Knowles in the first inning. Saint Mary’s answered with a run in the bottom of the first, and both teams kept it tied until late in the game. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Saint Mary’s scored eight runs and then ended the game early in the eighth under the 10-run rule.

Travis Farrell took his sixth loss of the season after pitching over six innings and allowing six earned runs on eleven hits. With this result, Seattle U’s overall record moved to 14 wins and 25 losses, while their conference record is now nine wins and ten losses.

The Redhawks will try to recover in their next matchup against Saint Mary’s. Kale Hammer is scheduled as starting pitcher for game two, which is set for a 4:05 p.m. start time.

Looking ahead, Seattle University Athletics encourages fans interested in supporting student athletes to consider making donations online.
