Seattle University baseball defeated Saint Mary’s College, 8-7, after overcoming a seven-run deficit on May 2 in Moraga, California.
The game saw the Redhawks trailing by seven runs through five innings before Tyler Horner hit a three-run home run to put Seattle U on the scoreboard. The team continued its comeback with five more unanswered runs, including a go-ahead two-run home run by freshman Tyler Jackson in the seventh inning. This marked Jackson’s first collegiate home run.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Saint Mary’s had an opportunity to tie with a runner at third base and one out. Jared Stevenson caught a fly ball in center field and threw out the runner at home plate for an 8-2 double play that ended the game.
Relief pitcher Luke Alwood played a key role in securing the win for Seattle U by throwing 4.2 scoreless innings and striking out two batters. This performance earned him his second win of the season.
