Seattle University baseball will conclude its final homestand of the season when it hosts Santa Clara for a three-game West Coast Conference series beginning Friday, May 8. The opening and closing games will take place at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue, while Saturday’s game is scheduled for Everett Memorial Stadium.
The upcoming series holds significance as it marks the Redhawks’ last home appearance this year and includes a senior day celebration on Sunday, where eleven players will be honored for their collegiate careers. The team currently has a home record of nine wins and ten losses, with an opportunity to secure a winning record at home for the second consecutive season.
In terms of recent performance, Seattle U secured a notable victory over Washington on Tuesday with a score of 4-3. This win clinched the season series against their crosstown rivals—the first time they have achieved this since 2017. Additionally, after suffering a heavy loss in their opener against Saint Mary’s last week, the Redhawks rebounded by winning the next two games and securing their fifth conference series win of the year. Last season in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), they won only two conference series.
Looking at individual achievements, right-handed pitcher Luke Alwood has not allowed any runs in his last four appearances and has contributed two wins and one save during that stretch. Freshman Tyler Jackson also made an impact by going four-for-eight with his first collegiate home run during last week’s Saint Mary’s series; prior to that weekend he had eight hits across seventeen games. The bullpen—featuring Alwood, Ryan Stone, Isaac Hallam, and Blake Smith—has combined for fourteen-and-two-thirds consecutive scoreless innings over the past three games.
Sunday’s senior day celebration at Bannerwood Park will honor Travis Farrell, Tyler Horner, Oliver Lang, Jake Morell, Camden Oram, Ryan Stone, Kaden Alberghini, Luke Alwood, Hunter Komine, Blake Smith, and Jared Stevenson following the conclusion of play.
