Seattle University’s baseball team won a close 7-6 game against Loyola Marymount in a 12-inning contest on April 12 at Bannerwood Park, securing a series sweep. The Redhawks initially led by four runs before the Lions tied the game and forced extra innings.
The victory is significant as it marks Seattle U’s first conference series sweep since 2019. The team improved its overall record to 12-19 and its West Coast Conference standing to 7-5.
Tyler Horner gave Seattle U an early advantage with a three-run home run in the first inning, followed by an RBI single from Jake Beauchaine. Loyola Marymount responded by scoring four unanswered runs between the second and fifth innings to even the score. After falling behind in the seventh, Seattle U tied it up again in the ninth when Ryder Manale doubled and Brandon Stinnett hit an RBI single.
In extra innings, both teams scored in the twelfth frame. Payton Knowles drove in a run for Seattle U with an RBI single, setting up Kenneth Rhein’s walk-off play—a slow ground ball that stayed fair along the first base line—allowing Cash Erdman to score and end the game.
The win highlights resilience from Seattle U after letting their initial lead slip away but managing key hits late in the game. Fans are encouraged to support Redhawk student athletes through donations or by following updates via GoSeattleU’s mobile app.
