Seattle University baseball defeated the University of Washington, 4-3, on May 5 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. The Redhawks secured the win in a game where all scoring occurred during the first two innings.
The matchup was marked by early offense from Seattle U, with Royce Hale, Ryder Manale, and Tyler Jackson each driving in runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jackson’s two-RBI single proved to be decisive as it brought home what would become the game-winning run. After their strong start, Seattle U was held scoreless for the remainder of the game despite collecting six hits.
Washington responded with three runs in the top of the second inning but could not add any more against Seattle U’s pitching staff for the rest of the contest. Jake Morell started on the mound for Seattle U and allowed three earned runs over two innings before leaving without a decision. Isaac Hallam (2-3) earned the win after throwing three scoreless innings and striking out four batters. Ryan Stone also contributed three shutout frames, while Luke Alwood closed out his second consecutive save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
With this victory, Seattle U improved its overall record to 17-25 and clinched its first season series win over their crosstown rivals since 2017.
The result highlights a significant achievement for Seattle U’s baseball program as they look to build momentum through local rivalries.
