City of Sammamish issued the following announcement.

City Manager Dave Rudat today announced the promotion of Anjali Myer to Director of Parks, Recreation, & Facilities.

The Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department is responsible for protecting the natural beauty of Sammamish through developing and maintaining a vibrant system of parks, open space, and trails. The Department also provides Sammamish residents of all ages recreational opportunities in clean, safe and accessible facilities.

Myer will continue to oversee four divisions of the Department:

1. Parks Planning works on land acquisition and capital improvement projects.
2. Recreation provides cultural and recreational opportunities, including special events that promote healthy lifestyles and community, and manages facility rentals and the City’s volunteer program.
3. Maintenance looks after our growing parks and recreation facilities to ensure longevity of assets and safety for park patrons.
4. Facilities plans new facilities and maintains existing ones.

The Department’s work is guided also by the Parks & Recreation Commission, the Arts Commission, and the Sammamish Youth Board.

“One of the reasons why residents are drawn to live in Sammamish is the City’s commitment to building a sustainable community that preserves and respects the natural resources that surround us,” said Rudat. “We have Anjali and her team to thank for bringing together nature and play through projects such as the Sammamish Landing and the ongoing improvements to our splendid parks and trails.”

“I believe the work of our Department contributes greatly to the quality of life for Sammamish’s residents,” said Ms. Myer. “It is our goal to create a legacy of quality parks, exceptional recreational programs, and protected natural resources that everyone in our vibrant and diverse community can have access to and enjoy.”

Ms. Myer, a Sammamish resident, has worked with the City of Sammamish for 12 years, starting as a Parks Project Manager and becoming the Department’s Deputy Director in 2017. She is a licensed Landscape Architect, holding a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a master’s degree in landscape architecture.
