SNOQUALMIE VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT: School Meals for Students during Distance Learning

Meals

Snoqualmie Valley School District issued the following announcement.

Public schools play a vital role in children’s health by providing free and reduced-price meals to students in need through the National School Lunch & Breakfast program. While SVSD schools initiate distance learning for all students this fall, our Food Service department will continue to make nutritious meals available at several locations throughout the district.

SVSD students who qualify for the federal Free and Reduced-price (F/R) Meals Program will be able to pick up meals “to go” from at least five school sites. To qualify for free or discounted meals, families need to meet income eligibility requirements and fill out a new F/R Meals application each school year.  For information on income eligibility and how to apply for F/R Meals, please visit our Food Services webpage. If your family has lost income due to COVID-19, be sure to check if you qualify, and if so, apply for your student/s.

For families who do not qualify for the F/R Meals program, grab and go breakfast and lunch school meals will be available for purchase - per the regular school meal pricing.  [NOTE: This is a change from last spring when our district was able to offer all children ages 0-18 free weekday grab-and-go meals, due to a waiver from the USDA that reimbursed school districts. Unfortunately, no such waiver has been made available to school districts the USDA, so our meal service must follow typically federal guidelines.]

Account balances remaining from last year will be rolled into the new school year.

Breakfast is free for both free and all reduced students. To purchase student meals, breakfasts cost $1.75 (elementary) and $2.00 (MS/HS); and lunches cost $3.25 (elementary), $3.50 (MS), and $3.75 (HS).

Coming soon... NEW:  Families will be asked to complete a pre-order form, to help us plan for quantities at each site. Walk-ups will also be served. Menus will be posted on the Food Service page. And, special dietary meals will be available upon request with an approved medical statement on file.  (Please check back later this week to complete the form and preview the menu.)

Food service staff at all locations will follow all CDC and Health Department recommendations for safety, including social distancing and wearing face coverings. Some items may require refrigeration or minimal cooking; instructions will be provided as needed.
