CITY OF BELLEVUE: Virtual Cultural Conversations

Zoooom

City of Bellevue issued the following announcement.

“Exploring Women’s Right to Vote Around the World”

During this month’s virtual Cultural Conversations event and on the verge of a national election, we will learn about the Suffrage Movement. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, giving women full voting rights in the United States. This will be a historical, but not political, discussion.

While the amendment was a major milestone, it's important to note that the right to vote was not afforded to all who were U.S. citizens and came much later for African American, Indigenous, Asian and Latinx women. Bellevue resident and immigration attorney Karol Brown will provide a historical overview to ground our conversation.

We’ll also explore stories and suffrage timelines from around the world and share what that movement means today for civic engagement efforts to lift women’s voices locally.

Please join our conversation on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 1-2:30 p.m. Register below to receive an access link to the virtual conversation.

Your RSVP is appreciated for this event at NeighborhoodOutreach@bellevuewa.gov or 425-452-6836 and will be confirmed with a Zoom Link providing instructions on how to connect to the event.

Cultural Conversations, a program in its eleventh season, has transformed relationships and perspectives among diverse women in our community through education and storytelling. For alternate formats, interpreters, or reasonable accommodation requests, please phone at least 48 hours in advance 425-452-6836 (voice). For complaints regarding accommodations, contact City of Bellevue ADA/Title VI Administrator at 425-452-6168 (voice) or email ADATitleVI@bellevuewa.gov. If you are deaf or hard of hearing dial 711.
