Home Safety Tips with Sammamish Police

Security officer 1210x642

City of Sammamish issued the following announcement on Feb. 16.

It's important to feel safe in your home and community. If you suspect suspicious activity or you have been the victim of a crime, please call 9-1-1 first. View Sammamish Police Chief, Dan Pingrey, speak about public safety: Town Hall with Sammamish Police.

We encourage all residents to take steps to help prevent a crime:

✔️ Make your home look occupied by leaving a light on

✔️ Keep your garage door closed and locked

✔️ Consider installing a security camera and alarm system

✔️ Turn off geo-tagging on your cell phone camera if you sell anything online to avoid a criminal with a free geo-tag reader from coming to your home

✔️ Don't allow daily deliveries of mail or newspapers build up while you are away -- arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly

✔️ Don't share your vacation plans on social media

✔️ Don’t leave valuables in your vehicles

✔️ Make sure to lock your vehicle

✔️ Don’t leave your vehicle idling unoccupied
