North Bend Awarded Grant, Train Depot to Receive New Roof

Roof

At the May 3, 2022 North Bend City Council meeting, Council unanimously approved a resolution accepting construction bids for the North Bend Train Depot Roof Rehabilitation project, awarding the construction contract to AMER-X Inc.

The 35-year-old roof is weathered, and in need of replacement. In 2021, the City was awarded $150,000 in grant funds from the Washington State Department of Commerce (DOC) for the project. There is no match requirement for this grant.

Located at William H. Taylor Park, the Train Depot was built in 1987. Over the years, the depot has served the community in a variety of ways, both as a source of tourism that supports visitors and locals via Northwest Railway Museum train rides, as a location for town halls, a visitor information center, a recreation program location for Valley children and more.

Mayor Rob McFarland commented, “The Train Depot and Taylor Park are an integral part of our downtown, and part of what makes it so unique. This rehab project is a positive step towards achieving our goal in creating an ideal downtown location for spacious, safe gatherings.”

AMER-X Inc. work on the Train Depot Roof Rehabilitation project will include:

  • Removing the existing concrete tile roof
  • Replacing underlayment and facia as necessary
  • Replacing some select beams
  • Installing new gutters and downspouts
  • Installing a new standing seam metal roof
