Suzan DelBene, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, has been vocal on several issues via social media. Born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently residing in Medina, DelBene has utilized her platform to address concerns ranging from privacy violations to historical injustices.
On February 18, 2025, Rep. Suzan DelBene expressed concerns over data privacy with a focus on the Social Security database. She stated that it includes sensitive information such as “Name,” “SSN,” “Financial History,” and “Health data.” DelBene warned against unauthorized access by prominent figures like Elon Musk, stating “Musk accessing your sensitive data is an illegal violation of your privacy.”
In another post dated February 19, 2025, DelBene criticized efforts by President Trump to reduce research funding. She highlighted the potential negative impacts on medical innovation and patient care following her visit to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She noted “President Trump is trying to cut critical research funding which would harm medical innovation & patient care.”
Also on February 19, 2025, DelBene commemorated the Day of Remembrance for Japanese Americans who were displaced during World War II due to their heritage. Emphasizing the importance of learning from history to prevent future injustices, she asserted “Over 120,000 Japanese Americans were forcibly uprooted from their homes during WWII… We cannot let history repeat itself.”
