U.S. Representative Suzan DelBene, who serves Washington’s 1st district in Congress, recently addressed issues ranging from federal funding for public media to the cost of child care in Washington state through a series of posts on social media.

On August 19, 2025, DelBene wrote about her meeting with Cascade PBS: “Met with Cascade PBS to discuss how federal funding cuts to local public media will impact WA communities, especially in rural areas. I’ll keep working to ensure Washington families have access to trusted news & emergency alerts they need.”

Later that day, she highlighted concerns over the affordability of child care for single parents in Washington: “Child care in WA can cost nearly half a single parent’s paycheck, forcing parents to cut hours or leave work. I’ve long fought to expand the Child Tax Credit to ease this burden, support working families & ensure a strong future for our kids.”

On August 21, DelBene posted a lighter message inviting followers’ engagement: “I had fun sharing my take on a few ‘this or that’ questions—see if you agree!”

Suzan DelBene has represented Washington’s 1st congressional district since replacing Jay Inslee in 2012 and has focused much of her legislative attention on family and community issues. She was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina. DelBene holds degrees from Reed College and the University of Washington.
