Rep. Suzan DelBene, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, has recently shared her views on various national issues through social media. Born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and residing in Medina, DelBene graduated from Reed College and later from the University of Washington.

On May 19, 2025, Rep. DelBene criticized the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for its management of Social Security. She stated that “DOGE said its takeover of Social Security was to root out waste, fraud, & abuse but just 2 cases out of 110,000 were flagged to potentially be fraudulent.” She added that this initiative resulted in a slowdown in retirement claims processing by 25%.

In another post on the same day, she offered assistance to constituents facing difficulties with federal agencies. DelBene assured them that “If you’re having issues with Social Security or other federal agencies, my office is here to help.” A link was provided for those seeking assistance.

Later that day, Rep. DelBene expressed skepticism about the Republican budget plan’s fiscal implications. She argued that “Republicans are lying when they say their budget plan will pay for itself.” According to her assessment, it would increase national debt while reducing essential services like Medicaid and food assistance.

Suzan DelBene has been actively serving her district since replacing Jay Inslee in 2012 and continues to address significant legislative matters affecting her constituents.
