Rep. Suzan DelBene, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, has recently used her social media platform to address issues related to suicide prevention, gun violence, and consumer protections for airline travelers.

On September 4, 2025, DelBene highlighted Suicide Prevention Month in a post that read: “September is Suicide Prevention Month & is a time to raise awareness, support one another, & remind those struggling that they are not alone. If you or someone you know needs help, dial 988to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. https://t.co/SubfNMCSXM”

Later the same day, she addressed legislative action on gun violence: “Thoughts & prayers are not enough. It takes action to save lives. I joined my colleagues in urging Speaker Johnson to vote on legislation to help end gun violence. https://t.co/r1Dqcn0F0A” (September 4, 2025).

The following day, DelBene turned attention to airline passenger rights and recent statements by former President Trump: “Ensuring travelers get money back for flights significantly delayed by the airline would save them hundreds of dollars. Now Trump is saying consumers can be left stranded with nothing.” (September 5, 2025).

Suzan DelBene was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina at age 61. She holds degrees from Reed College and the University of Washington and succeeded Jay Inslee as representative for Washington’s 1st District in Congress after his departure in 2012.
