Rep. Suzan DelBene, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account between May 4 and May 5, 2026, addressing issues related to congressional ethics, federal budgeting, and community engagement.
The following day, DelBene commented on a budget proposal by House Republicans for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), stating: “Republicans revealed their $72 billion budget proposal for DHS. Let’s be clear about what this does & doesn’t do:
Gives tens of billions to ICE without any reforms
Creates a slush fund for Homeland Security
Wastes $1 billion on Trump’s ballroom
Lowers costs for”.
In addition to her legislative focus, DelBene highlighted her participation in local events by posting: “Great to join Centro Cultural Mexicano over the weekend for their annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Redmond! https://t.co/QSsadcGM93” on May 5.
DelBene succeeded Jay Inslee in representing Washington’s 1st District and has been an advocate for transparency and ethical conduct in government since taking office in 2012. She was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina. Her educational background includes degrees from Reed College and the University of Washington.
