Rep. Suzan DelBene, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, posted a series of statements on her social media account in early November 2025 addressing both cultural observances and federal policy issues.
On November 1, DelBene acknowledged the traditional Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, stating, “Today we honor Día de los Muertos, a time to remember & celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed. May this day bring comfort, connection, & joyful remembrance to all who observe.”
Two days later, on November 3, she criticized former President Donald Trump’s trade policies regarding beef prices and their impact on American agriculture: “Trump’s trade policies are making beef more expensive for American families while abandoning local ranchers. We need trade policies that put our farmers & consumers first.”
On November 4, DelBene addressed another issue related to food security programs in the United States. She wrote, “Trump is refusing to comply with multiple federal court orders that require him to pay SNAP benefits to the 42 million Americans who rely on the program to keep food on the table. He is forcing families to go hungry.”
DelBene has served in Congress since succeeding Jay Inslee in 2012 and currently resides in Medina. Born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and now aged 61, she holds degrees from Reed College and the University of Washington.
