Rep. Suzan DelBene, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, has recently voiced her concerns on Twitter regarding the Republican budget proposal and its potential impacts on healthcare and child welfare.

On May 21, DelBene criticized the Republican budget, stating that it not only “kicks millions of people off Medicaid & raise health care bills” but also would result in “$535 billion in cuts to Medicare,” as per analysis from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. Link to tweet.

Later that day, DelBene accused House Republicans of attempting to pass their budget bill without public scrutiny by pushing it through the @RulesDemocrats committee late at night. She highlighted that this action could “take away health care & raises costs for millions of families.” She noted that Democrats, including herself and Rep. McGovern, have been actively opposing these changes. Link to tweet.

In another post on May 22, DelBene pointed out that the Republican budget bill excludes “17 million kids from families most in need from receiving the full Child Tax Credit.” She criticized Republicans for refusing to make what she described as a key investment that helps reduce childhood poverty and supports communities. Suzan DelBene was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina. She graduated from Reed College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983 and later obtained further education from the University of Washington.
