Rep. Suzan DelBene, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, has used her Twitter account to comment on recent Congressional actions affecting food assistance and federal agency funding.
On April 30, 2026, DelBene stated, “Since Republicans passed their megabill in July, nearly 29,000 Washingtonians have lost their SNAP benefits, according to data from USDA. This problem is only going to get worse, with the Republican Farm Bill doubling down on these cuts to food assistance.”
Later that day, she posted another message regarding budget allocations: “Republicans passed a budget in the middle of the night to give another $70 billion to ICE. This does nothing to lower costs or keep our communities safe.”
In a subsequent tweet on April 30, DelBene addressed funding for Homeland Security agencies: “Congress finally approved funding for the Homeland Security agencies like TSA, the Coast Guard, & FEMA that keep our nation safe. This should have been done weeks ago, but House Republican extremists withheld the funding for 76 days. Americans deserve a”
Suzan DelBene was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina. She graduated from Reed College in 1983 and later from the University of Washington in 1990. She replaced Jay Inslee as representative of Washington’s 1st district in Congress and has held the position since then.
