U.S. Representative Suzan DelBene, who serves Washington’s 1st district in Congress, posted a series of statements on her social media accounts over the past two days, addressing topics from tax policy and economic uncertainty to local sports achievements.
On July 27, DelBene criticized recent legislative priorities discussed at a Ways and Means Committee hearing. She stated: “At yesterday’s @WaysMeansCmte hearing, I called out the truth: permanent giveaways for the wealthy & corporations, while working families get temporary scraps
Costs are rising, families are struggling, and Republicans are doubling down on the same failed agenda.” This comment came amid ongoing national debate about fiscal policy and support for different economic groups.
Later that day, DelBene congratulated former Seattle Mariners player Ichiro Suzuki on his Hall of Fame induction. In her post dated July 27 she wrote: “From Japan to Seattle, Ichiro became a legend, one base hit at a time. Congrats to a true @Mariners icon on your Hall of Fame induction! Washington will never forget #51. “
On July 28, DelBene turned her attention to international trade issues affecting U.S. businesses under recent tariff policies. She stated: “Businesses need certainty to grow & sustain themselves. Trump’s tariff chaos is making it hard for them to sell their products abroad or get the supplies they need to manufacture here in the U.S.”
Suzan DelBene has represented Washington’s 1st District since 2012 after succeeding Jay Inslee in Congress. She was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina at age 61. DelBene holds degrees from Reed College (BS) and the University of Washington.
