Rep. Suzan DelBene, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st District since 2012, recently addressed several community and economic issues through a series of social media posts. These tweets reflect her ongoing engagement with constituents and her efforts to address local concerns.
On May 14, Rep. DelBene highlighted the financial strain that child care costs impose on families. She emphasized the necessity for parents not to have to choose between essential expenses like child care and food. She advocated for an expanded Child & Dependent Care Tax Credit as a solution, while criticizing Republican opposition to its expansion: “Child care costs are crushing family budgets. Parents shouldn’t have to choose between child care & putting food on the table…The expanded Child & Dependent Care Tax Credit would give families more relief. Republicans voted against expanding it.”
On May 15, Rep. DelBene shared her meeting with Eric Howard, Executive Director of Sno-Isle Libraries, where they discussed the role libraries play in connecting communities through information access and learning opportunities: “Great to meet with Eric Howard, the Executive Director of @snoislelibrary, today. We talked about how libraries connect our communities through access to information & learning.”
Later that day, she met with Mayor Gailey of Lake Stevens and spoke at an event hosted by the Economic Alliance of Snohomish County regarding economic challenges facing their community and how she is supporting these efforts in Congress: “Met with @LakeStevensWA Mayor Gailey & spoke at the Economic Alliance of Snohomish County to discuss the economic issues we are facing in our community & how I’m supporting Snohomish County in Congress.”
Suzan DelBene was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina. She graduated from Reed College in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree and later earned another degree from the University of Washington.
