Representative Suzan DelBene, who has served Washington’s 1st District in the U.S. Congress since 2012, recently shared updates on social media regarding federal food assistance, youth support programs, and healthcare services in her state. DelBene, 61, was born in Selma, Alabama and currently resides in Medina.

On July 11, 2025, DelBene addressed recent changes to federal food assistance: “Federal food programs like SNAP help feed over 900,000 Washingtonians. Republicans just made a historic cut to these programs that could cut benefits for 130,000 in our state.”

Later that day, she visited a local youth center and reported: “Stopped by the Snohomish Boys & Girls Club Teen Center to see how the space is supporting kids & families this summer. Programs like these give young people a safe place to learn, grow, & thrive!” The visit highlighted community efforts to provide safe environments for young people during summer months.

In another post from July 11th following her visit to Sea Mar’s Monroe clinic, DelBene stated: “At Sea Mar’s Monroe clinic today to hear about the essential care they provide. We discussed the challenges patients face accessing health services with cuts to Apple Health & other health programs, & the importance of investing in providers that serve our rural & underserved”

Suzan DelBene replaced Jay Inslee as representative of Washington’s 1st district in 2012. She holds degrees from Reed College (1983) and the University of Washington (1990).
