Rep. Suzan DelBene, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 1st district since 2012, has recently highlighted issues related to federal research funding, community library development, and rising costs for families in a series of social media posts.

On August 21, 2025, DelBene referenced her experience in biomedical research to address concerns about inconsistent federal support for scientific projects. She wrote, “As someone who worked in biomedical research, I know the importance of federal investments. Research— even focused on specific groups— helps improve the health of everyone. The constant start & stop the Trump admin is doing with funding is hurting projects because researchers”.

Two days later, on August 22, DelBene expressed appreciation for local efforts to expand educational infrastructure in her district. She posted, “Thank you to @snoislelibrary Executive Director & staff for a tour of the new Lake Stevens Library, now under construction. I nominated this project for federal funding for their early learning library & am excited to see it come to life for families in our district.”

On August 23, DelBene addressed economic challenges facing families as they prepare for the school year. She stated, “Families are paying more for back-to-school supplies this year. Costs are up over 7.3% from 2024. No parent should have to choose between essentials for their child & other household needs. I’ll keep fighting to lower costs & support WA families.”

DelBene’s comments come amid ongoing debates about federal investment priorities and economic pressures on American households. As a congresswoman who succeeded Jay Inslee in 2012 and holds degrees from Reed College and the University of Washington, DelBene has consistently advocated for education and family welfare initiatives throughout her tenure.

Born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently residing in Medina at age 61, DelBene continues to emphasize local engagement and national policy issues affecting constituents in Washington’s 1st District.
