Rep. Suzan DelBene, who represents Washington’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on social media addressing recent and historical events affecting her constituents and the nation.
On January 6, 2026, DelBene marked the anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol by stating, “Today marks five years since the January 6 attack on our democracy. I remain grateful to the Capitol Police officers for protecting me, my colleagues, & our democratic institutions. What happened that day was unconscionable. Political violence must never be tolerated or”. The post comes as lawmakers and citizens reflect on the events of January 6, 2021.
Later that same day, DelBene acknowledged local leaders in her district with another message: “Thank you to Mayor Brian Holtzclaw of Mill Creek & Mayor Geoffrey Thomas of Monroe for their years of service to our communities! I wish them both well in their next chapters.” Both mayors have played roles in local governance within Washington’s 1st district.
On January 7, DelBene shared an update about a constituent’s health care concerns: “I recently spoke with Gerry, who relies on ACA marketplace coverage for his cancer treatment, about how losing the enhanced ACA tax credits would directly affect him.”
Suzan DelBene has represented Washington’s 1st District in Congress since she succeeded Jay Inslee in 2012. She was born in Selma, Alabama in 1962 and currently resides in Medina at age 61. Her educational background includes degrees from Reed College (1983) and the University of Washington (1990).
