City of Redmond issued the following announcement on April 27.
The Redmond City Council unanimously adopted, and Mayor Birney signed a resolution declaring the City’s commitment to an inclusive community that rejects stigma and bias related to COVID-19.
The resolution reaffirms the City’s ongoing commitment to welcoming all community members and visitors regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, country of origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, religion, income, political persuasion, or cultural practices. The City of Redmond previously committed to the principles of inclusiveness and incorporating diversity into every part of its operations with resolution in January 2017. That urged City officials and City staff to be mindful of inclusion in the work that they do, to continue improving Redmond’s culture of inclusion.
The City calls upon every member of the community to treat each other with respect. If you observe or experience incidents of discrimination, harassment, or hate crimes, please call 911, whether or not it is an emergency.
You may also report discrimination online to the Washington State Human Rights Commission at www.hum.wa.gov; however, please note the Human Rights Commission is currently experiencing workload delays. For urgent matters, please call 1-800-233-3247 during regular business hours.
