Facebook and REI-Co-op recently committed to additional funding for recreational trails in King County, with funding to complete the Northup Way Connector, which will link the Eastrail and the 520 Trail.
Both companies had also recently committed to each providing $1 million in funding for Eastrail infrastructure, according to a release from King County.
The two trails – the Eastrail and the 520 Trail – already cross one another, but are separated by a 20-foot vertical grade, according to the release. The Facebook and REI money will create a connection to enable individuals to easily pass from one trail to the other.
“Trails connect us to what we know and love here in King County, including open space and natural beauty, abundant access to safe and healthy recreation, economic opportunity and more. But we have more to do to expand our trails so even more people can benefit,” Claudia Balducci, King County Council chair, was quoted as saying in the release. “I’m so happy to be able to provide the remaining funding to complete this critical Eastrail connection faster than we imagined possible.”
