Tukwila School District issued the following announcement.
Tukwila School District Community,
I am sure by now you have heard about Governor Inslee’s modification to the DOH decision tree on reopening schools. While the numbers may have changed, our procedural guidance has not. We will continue to work with the King County Department of Health, our labor partners and surrounding school districts. I have had two meetings with area Superintendents over the last three days and the responses range from some districts bringing students back the first week of January to other districts staying with their original plans to bring students back in late January/early February.
Our process for bringing students back on campus in larger numbers involves collaborating and working with staff, families, and community members as well as Puget Sound Education Service District and other surrounding school districts. This will provide the planning teams with opportunities to share best practices such as student schedules, transportation logistics, meal services and sanitation of school buildings. The earliest date for students to return to campus would occur late January or roughly the beginning of second semester. We want to make sure that we have our systems in place to support our students and staff and to create the most conducive learning environment possible.
Thank you for continuing to support our staff and schools here in Tukwila. We appreciate our community and want to find the best ways we can meet the needs of our students and families.
Flip Herndon, Superintendent
Tukwila School District
