Beginning Friday, August 26th, the Second Street Watermain and Roadway Reconstruction project will enter the road reconstruction phase of work. This portion will require road
closure on Second Street, from Main Avenue to Ballarat Avenue, starting August 26th and ending September 12th. Contractor crews will be removing existing asphalt and unsuitable
material, updating with improved roadway fill, then paving.
In addition to the road closure between Main Avenue and Ballarat Avenue, drivers should expect traffic delays on August 26th, in two other locations along Second Street:
Between Bendigo Boulevard and Main Avenue on Second Street: Contractor crews will be grinding existing roadway, installing permanent utility patches and paving back along curb
lines.
Bendigo Boulevard/Second Street intersection: Contractor crews will be grinding and paving back the intersection.
Contractor crews from Fury Siteworks will be performing all sidewalk and pavement overlay work. Drivers can expect traffic control on Second Street and at the Bendigo
Boulevard/Second Street intersection.
The Second Street Watermain and Roadway Replacement project is an important element of the City’s 2022-2027 Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program, in addition to also
being a crucial component of the 2020 Water System Plan. This work aims to improve transportation infrastructure, while also reducing water distribution system leakage. Second
Street enhancements also include sidewalk, curb, and storm drainage replacement, and adding a storm drain for easy future access.
The Second Street project is expected to be complete by early fall, but work is weather dependent. Questions can be emailed to Tom Mohr, PE, Deputy Public Works Director, at
TMohr@northbendwa.gov.
The City apologizes for any inconveniences caused by this important improvement project and asks the community for its patience, while also reminding residents and visitors that
businesses on Second Street remain open. Please consider supporting these downtown businesses during this challenging period of construction.
